James Taylor

James is the CEO and a Principal Consultant of Decision Management Solutions. He is the leading expert in how to use business rules and analytic technology to build Decision Management Systems. James is passionate about using Decision Management Systems to help companies improve decision making and develop an agile, analytic and adaptive business. He provides strategic consulting to companies of all sizes, working with clients in all sectors to adopt decision making technology. James has spent the last 20 years developing approaches, tools, and platforms that others can use to build more effective information systems. He has led Decision Management efforts for leading companies in insurance, banking, health management and telecommunications.

James is the author of “Decision Management Systems: A practical guide to using business rules and predictive analytics” (IBM Press, 2011). He previously wrote Smart (Enough) Systems: How to Deliver Competitive Advantage by Automating Hidden Decisions (Prentice Hall) with Neil Raden, and has contributed chapters on Decision Management to multiple books including “Applying Real-World BPM in an SAP Environment”, "The Decision Model", "The Business Rules Revolution: Doing Business The Right Way" and "Business Intelligence Implementation: Issues and Perspectives" as well as many articles to magazines.

In addition to strategy and implementation consulting, James delivers webinars, workshops and training. He is a regular keynote speaker at conferences such as the Business Rules Forum, Predictive Analytics World and IBM's Business Analytics Forum. He is the chair of the Decision Management Summit, a Faculty Member of the International Institute for Analytics and the author of a popular blog on Decision Management (JT on EDM).

James was previously a Vice President at Fair Isaac Corporation where he developed and refined the concept of decision management. The best known proponent of the approach, James helped create the emerging Decision Management market and is a passionate advocate of decision management.He understands how companies buy and use these technologies and he has helped companies successfully adopt these technologies and apply them in the context of Business Process Management and Business Intelligence initiatives.

Gagan Saxena Gagan Saxena is the Vice President of Consulting and a Principal Consultant with Decision Management Solutions. Over the past twenty years, Gagan has specialized in technology-driven business transformation. He has assisted organizations with Business Design, Market Analysis, Business Process Reengineering, Organization Change Management, Technology & Information Strategy, Contract Management, Enterprise Architecture and Program Management.

In his most recent role as the Chief Information Officer at Apple Vacations, Gagan initiated a new consumer sales organization based on Decision Management technologies. An intelligent core delivers real time personalization of the consumer experience based on a comprehensive set of business rules driving product and pricing presentation. A wide variety of travel product supplier systems have been integrated to provide the most relevant offers for consumers. Automated decisioning uses data from web analytics, social media and competitive monitoring bureau. Most importantly a new organization structure, processes, skill-sets and performance metrics have been designed to support the advanced technology stack.

Gagan is experienced in business technology management in healthcare, financial services, telecommunications and services industries. He has managed several rollouts of SAP ERP systems to locations across the US as well as numerous e-commerce and web implementations. Gagan also created and led an Enterprise Architecture group for business technology alignment and to explore innovations in business and in technology.

An active Tweeter himself, Gagan assists with social business strategy and champions enterprise 2.0 collaboration constructs. Related areas of interest include big data, cloud solutions, mobile strategy, digital marketing and integrated customer experience. Meri Gruber

Meri Gruber Meri is the VP of Business Development at Decision Management Solutions. Meri is an accomplished Business Development professional with proven experience in delivering high value solutions to customers and partners. Most recently Meri advised enterprise software and technology companies on their positioning, partner, marketing, social media, go-to-market and commercialization strategy and implementation. Meri was Director Business Development for Intel’s flat panel display venture, Investment Manager for Intel’s New Business Investments, and consultant to venture capitalists and private investors.

Meri also has extensive international operating experience with Intel, Total SA, Schlumberger and Ernst & Young Management Consulting including 14 years working in Europe and Asia – Norway, France, Brunei, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. She is a Principal Advisor for the LARTA-NSF CAP1 program, advising National Science Foundation SBIR grantees on their commercialization plan. She holds a BSEE with honors from the University of Washington, Seattle and an MBA from INSEAD, France.
